February 27th, 2009 by Giridhar | Posted under Howtos, Linux.

After Ubuntu , yet another cranky name for its 9.10 release – Its called Karmic Koala,

Why Ubuntu 9.10 is named as Karmic Koala

karmic koala ubuntuThe koala is a small bear-like  creature living on trees which  is about 9kg (20lb) in weight. Its fur is thick and usually ash grey. The koala gets its name from an ancient word meaning “no drink” because it receives most of its water required from the Eucalyptus leaves (also known as gum leaves) it eats, and only drinks when ill or times when there is not enough moisture in the leaves. The Koala is found in coastal regions of eastern and southern Australia.

Eucalyptus ,Karmic Koala and Ubuntu

So what is the relation between eucalyptus , Koala and Ubuntu , Even I was wondering about this. As Koala depends on Eucalyputs for water , Ubuntu  depends on Eucalyptus (Elastic Utility Computing Architecture)for its cloud computing architecture . Still do you think this name is cranky ??

More about Karmic Koala,

Ubuntu founder Mark Shuttleworth mentioned that his aim is too high asubuntu logo clouds and he need to see free software at the forefront of cloud computing and make it easy for anybody to setup their own cloud using entirely open tools.

He is also aiming for a much better desktop experience and a much faster way to get-in to koala desktop. So by Karmic Koala release we can expect a much faster Free OS which would provide a better desktop experience.
