snippy snagit alternativeI was searching for an alternative for SnagIt on web and landed on a simple website Snippy . This tool is very simple to use and it doesn’t require any installation. It is just 84 KB.

How to use Snippy
Click on the Snippy icon – mouse cursor changes to a pen – mark an area of the screen – the marked area is now in your clipboard.If you want to select a rectangular area, just hold down the Shift key while dragging

Advantages

  • Cut part of web pages or images easily
  • Light weight
  • No installation required
  • Images can be saved as .gif, .jpg, .bmp , .tiff, .png
  • Freeware

Drawbacks

  • Works only on Window XP (out of box)
  • For saving the image you need to go to taskbar else it will stay in clipboard
  • By default image type for saving is .bmp , it could be better if it is jpg or gif

    Thanks for this Snag-It alternative. I had heard a lot about SnagIt from Amit Agarwal of labnol.org. Good that I will get all those qualities for free with Snippy.
    But this tool does not work with Vista , Vista has an Inbuilt tool named “Snipping Tool” which we can use to take Snipes of any content
