Security exploit discovered in Internet Explorer – 972890 – Solution and workarounds

microsoftMicrosoft Security Advisory is reporting a new security issue which is found on Internet Explorer. In a Web-based attack scenario, an attacker could host a web site that contains a web page that is used to exploit this vulnerability. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could gain the same user rights as the local user

Microsoft says,

Microsoft is investigating a privately reported vulnerability in Microsoft Video ActiveX Control. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could gain the same user rights as the local user. When using Internet Explorer, code execution is remote and may not require any user intervention

The exploit is targeted towards the users on Windows XP, but not sure about users on Vista and Windows 7 ,they might be affected in some other ways. The only solution is to remove support for this ActiveX Control within Internet Explorer.

  1. There have always been some or the other Security exploits in IE since long..I don’t know why people still use this crappy browser. Anyways, thanks for bringing it to notice.
