Orkut Facebook Twitter jargon explained

social networkingOrkut ,Facebook, Twitter are three leading social networking sites used to keep in touch with friends. Facebook has more users in US , UK and Europe where as Orkut has users in Brazil and India. On these websites they use many jargon like Wall, poke, scrap, tweet etc  are explained to a newbie here.

Wall

Wall is the common jargon on Facebook. Wall is a space on each users profile page where other friends can post messages. One user’s wall is visible to anyone. Wall is just a public message to a user on Facebook

Poke

Poke is well discussed feature on Facebook. If you don’t have anything to say but just want to make your friend aware that ” I am here” you can use poke, Poke can be interpreted in their own ways. It is just a flirting on Facebook

Events

Events are used to let your friends know about upcoming events in their community and helps to organize social gatherings.

Status

You can micro-blog using this feature. With this you can inform your friends about your current actions , thoughts etc.

Scrap

On Orkut Scrap is same as WALL on Facebook. it is used to publish a public comment for your friend.

Tweet

Posting your thoughts and ideas in 140 characters on Twitter is know as tweets.It will be publicly available and can be searched

Retweet

If any one would like to republish someone else tweet with a courtesy to the original owner, it can be retweeted by adding @<twitter_username> at the begining of the tweet.
