If you identified that your website is slow , try these tips to improve your website speed.

Move to a faster server
If you can get another website which is hosted on same web server and test the speed , if it performs well then it could be the problem with your design or you may have to think about website optimization.Otherwise consider moving to a better hosting provider with good speed.

Redesign
Redesigning with less graphics and lighter images can be considered to speed up your website

Optimize  images
Optimize your images and try using gif or jpeg formats instead of bmp is a simple tip. If you are using background images try avoiding it and use HTML code to color your background. Instead of using a single big image try spliting it into different piece , it improves your website loading time.

HTML code
Nested tables and unnecessary white spaces may lead to a slower performance, avoid those.

Sound
Background music is annoying on websites and it is not a good SEO technique.

CSS instead of images
Maximize the use of CSS instead of background color.

Remove trackers**
Remove unnecessary trackers and stickers which are commonly seen on website footers, those doesn’t give much value and visitors but they drastically reduces the speed. Most of those track user activities on your website and provide you reports which are of less use,  analysis it and use it sagely. This technique  improved my website speed, earlier it was taking 20 sec. to load,  after removing those from tracers like , site traker , topofblog etc etc , my blog is loading at a speed of 6-8 sec.
