  • wikipedia foundationAll tech savys knows what a wikipedia is ?  It is noticed that Wikipedia does’nt have any banner advertisements and their policy is to provide the knowledge for free. Even though Wikipedia is ‘top five’ most visited website in the world it just employee 35 staff. Wikipedia have 14 million volunteer-authored articles in over 250 languages. But now Wikipedia started a huge donation campaign which aims at 6 Million Dollar. It is mentioned that this money is for covering the operational cost such as bandwidth , hosting and technology charges.
  • Is it an operational design failure ?
  • When they started this project what was their plans to run this project ?
  • What is the transparency they provide to let donors know where exactly the money is going ?
  • why they don’t start advertisements on the wikipedia and start donating to the needy , isn’t that too a charity ?

I am writing these with due respect to Wikipedia who initiated a free project for knowledge sharing but I am just expressing a few concern on the operational model.

If you feel donating here is the link
wikipedia donation
Now let me write few resons why we need to donate to wikipedia

1. They share the knowledge for free
2. Advertisement free information provided
3. Bandwidth and technology expense are huge to serve 330 million people every month.
4. Information on wikipeida is still growing

I would love to help them, but instead of asking for donation they could simply monetize the 6th most visited site.
