India didn’t have a market for automatic transmission cars in the past. It was not that we didn’t tried it earlier. Maruti had introduced auto gearbox cars way back in 1996 but they didn’t really took off. The reason was quite obvious. Price  was a major factor . Maruti zen in 1997 was having a price difference of 85,000 which was too much for Indian market. Mileage was another concern for every Indian.
